Lund University School of Economics and Management is one of eight faculties within Lund University. More than 4 000 students and 450 researchers, teachers and other staff are engaged here in training and research in economic history, business administration, business law, informatics, economics, statistics and research policy.

The Department of Economic History is a research-intensive department that employs about 60 people: researchers, teachers, technical/administrative staff, and Ph.D. candidates. The department has a large PhD programme and co-ordinates four international Master programmes. The Department has a well established reputation for wide-ranging research with an emphasis on long-term processes, and with economic theory and quantitative methods as important methodological tools. Particularly strong research areas include economic growth and structural change, development economics, and economic demography, as well as agrarian history, financial history and education and the labour market. Job description
Lund University announces one or more tenure track positions as associate senior lecturer in economic history.

The full time position is temporary (four years), but with a possibility after application to be promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer at the Department of Economic History, Lund University School of Economics and Management.

Terms of employment
Applicants must be experienced and show competence within the subject area economic history.

The position consists of both research (about 60%) and teaching. Administrative tasks can also be included. Teaching can be at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level. It is desirable that applicants who do not have Swedish as their mother tongue gain reasonable knowledge of Swedish during time of employment.

Qualification on requirements
To be employed as associate senior lecturer applicants must have a PhD within the subject area economic history, or equivalent scientific competence, no more than seven years before the last day of application. Applicants are also required to have demonstrated pedagogical skills. Ability to conduct and develop research of high quality and good pedagogical ability form the basis for the position.

The School of Economics and Management aims at a balance between research and teaching. Equal importance will therefore be given to the scholarly and pedagogical skills when assessing the applicants. Administrative competence is also taken into account.

In the overall assessment of scholarly skills special weight will be given to publications in peer reviewed journals and the applicant’s ability to receive external research funding. Moreover, the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research will be considered.

Pedagogical qualifications include training in teaching and learning in higher education, pedagogical experience and pedagogical skills.

Promotion to Senior Lecturer
After application, an associate senior lecturer should be promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer, if he or she is qualified for such an appointment and also assessed as adequate according to current eligibility and assessment criteria for promotion to senior lecturer (see below). An associate senior lecturer can only apply for promotion once. The application should be submitted to Lund University School of Economics and Management no later than three years and six months of employment.

Eligibility and assessment criteria for promotion
Eligibility for a permanent position as senior lecturer includes:

- Scholarly skills (with progression)

- Pedagogical skills (with progression)

- Completion of at least five weeks training in teaching and learning in higher education

Other requirements for promotion
- High level of scholarly competence relevant to the subject and the working tasks of the position. This includes a documented good national and international standing as a researcher, where special weight will be given to documented ability to publish in international journals.
- High level of pedagogical competence, where special weight will be given to documented ability to conduct teaching and supervising at different levels, together with an ability to reflect on your own pedagogical development.
- Progression in the academic leadership through increased ability to develop, lead and conduct education and research and/or shown interest in common departmental tasks.
- Documented ability to formulate successful research applications for external research funding.
- Good ability to interact with the surrounding society and inform about research.
- Other personal ability that is of importance to fulfil the working tasks in a satisfactory way.
