The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology is responsible for a large number of educational programs at basic and advanced levels within computer science, software development, and media technology. Currently, more than 60 staff members work at the department. The department has a strong connection with other departments of Linnaeus University. We carry out research within several Knowledge Environments, where Educational Technology (EdTech) is one of them. The EdTech research group collaborates with a number of the Knowledge Environments and cooperates with municipalities and schools to meet research challenges related to education and digital technology.
The position as Associate Senior Lecturer is linked to the EdTech environment at the Department and more specifically to a research project externally funded by Forte. Both the environment and the project are under the scientific leadership of Professor Italo Masiello. The Forte-funded project aims to address a pronounced need for favorable conditions for children’s learning with the help of the Active Implementation Framework targeting teachers. The project aims to contributing with knowledge about the promotion of improved teaching practices and student outcomes.

Extent of employment:
This is a full time position (100%) for four years. The appointment may be renewed, however for no longer than a total of two years, if more time is required to fulfil the purpose of the appointment because of the associate senior lecturer’s sick leave, parental leave, or other specific reasons.
Following application for promotion, the associate senior lecturer should be tried for promotion to senior lecturer/associate professor and appointment for an indefinite period. In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (HF, chap 4, section 12a), Ordinance (SFS, 2017:844).
Job description:
The work duties cover the whole research cycle, that is, identifying research challenges, planning, funding and implementing the research project and sub-projects. More specifically, the research work starts from discussions and interviews with the collaborating partners, in this case, municipalities and schools, in order to identify the research challenges and the respective methods to be use. The research work as part of the Forte project will make use of controlled studies, interviews, observations, surveys and other quality improvement methods. As part of the Active Implementation Framework, the associate senior lecturer will lead an implementation team which in turn will carry on improvement work in the schools participating in the research. Quality improvement work is related to professional development for teachers that should lead to improved teaching practices and student outcomes. The work is conducted in connection to the implementation of the Swedish National Digitalization Strategy on curriculum level.
The position holder shall publish results in top-tier, international journals and conferences, and participate actively in the academic community, performing academic services, such as conference organization and review service. Participation in international research networks with joint project publications is promoted.
The position holder will also teach, supervise, or participate in other departmental duties to the extent of approximately 20-50% of full time. This part of the position includes the development of syllabi, course content, examination, and act as the teacher responsible for courses within the master’s program in Educational Technology. Supervision of theses at master's and postgraduate’s level is also included.
The position holder should also be prepared to acquire implementation science competences during his/her first year by the Forte research group.
