The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. This is a multidisciplinary department that includes internationally strong research in aquatic and marine ecology, evolutionary ecology, microbiology, environmental responses to climate change, environmental chemistry and geochemistry, environmental pollution, industrial ecology and environmental risk analysis. Placement: Kalmar, Sweden
Scope of appointment: This is a full-time position (100%) for four years. The appointment may be renewed, however for no longer than a total of two years, if more time is required to fulfil the purpose of the appointment because of the associate senior lecturer’s sick leave, parental leave, or other specific reasons.
After application for promotion, the assistant senior lecturer shall be examined for promotion to senior lecturer and a full-time employment, according to the Higher Education Ordinance (HF 4 kap 12 a§), Ordinance (SFS 2017:844).
Job Description:
The Department of Biology and Environmental Science at Linnaeus University is seeking an associate senior lecturer in the field of environmental risk analysis. We are looking for a candidate that can strengthen our existing research and teaching in environmental science and contribute to the future of the department. We expect the candidate to run an independent research program in the broader field of environmental risk analysis, including topics such as characterization of environmental behavior and fate of potentially toxic chemicals, exposure analysis, toxicology and risk management, but gladly see synergistic interaction with ongoing research at the university. Research will be allocated at a minimum of 50 %. The position also includes teaching at bachelor and advanced level in environmental risk analysis, and broadly associated fields, both at campus and through distance learning.
Required qualifications:
Qualified to apply is a person who has defended his/her doctoral thesis, or in other way has acquired the equivalent scientific skills. Primarily a person should be considered who has defended his/her doctoral degree or acquired the equivalent competence no longer than five years before the expiration of the application period (HF, chap. 4, section 4a).
Also, a person who has defended his/her doctoral thesis or acquired equivalent competence at an earlier stage may be considered if there are special reasons for this. Special reasons refer to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances; Ordinance (2017:844). An applicant with a doctoral degree that is older than five years should motivate in his/her application why special reasons should be taken into account.
In order to qualify for this appointment, the candidate must have a PhD degree in environmental science or related fields of research that fits the scope of the position profile.
Eligibility for this position also requires:
• an active research profile in environmental risk analysis,
• documented ability to in person receive external national or international funding in competition,
• strong publication record in peer-viewed journals in the scope of the position,
• documented subject knowledge in scientific methods within environmental risk analysis, coupled to national and international conditions,
• pedagogical skills in teaching and supervising of students at the university level,
• an ability to perform teaching and research in English.
Assessment criteria:
In addition to the formal requirements described above, other assessment criteria include:
• documented ability to develop courses at the university level,
• ability, or willingness to learn, to teach in Swedish,
• documented experience of digital teaching and learning platforms,
• ability to contribute to a healthy working environment for colleagues and students.
Ability to work together in research groups or with external research partners, the ability to work independently and structured, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks will also be assessed.
In the overall assessment of the applicant’s skills and competences, special emphasis is placed on the applicant's potential for a successful career as an academic teacher and researcher, as well as the ability to create sustainable work relationships and collaboration. Strong emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Scope of position
In connection to any application for promotion to senior lecturer the following in particular will be taken into account:
An associate senior lecturer that is employed in accordance with HF chap. 4, section 12a at a higher education institution should, following application, be promoted to senior lecturer at the higher education institution if he/she meets the requirements for appointment as senior lecturer and at a trial is considered suitable for such an appointment in accordance with the assessment criteria determined by the higher education institution. Such a promotion involves employment as senior lecturer for an indefinite period.
