Arbetsbeskrivning
Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre
The centre carries out research, teaching and dissemination of information on forest management in southern Sweden. The research is focused on subjects particularly relevant to southern Sweden, such as the silviculture of deciduous and mixed forests, alternatives to spruce, management of forests with extensive butt-rot, high quality production on fertile sites, damage caused by native and invasive forest pest and pathogens, and competition between ground vegetation and tree seedlings.
Subjec area
Forest health is affected by many factors such as climate change, changes in land use, and global trade which can introduce new invasive threats. To effectively manage forest health requires an understanding of the biology, ecology and epidemiology of important native and exotic damaging agents, microbial and insect interactions of forest trees including host symbioses and tree defence mechanisms, and how damage can be anticipated and managed through silvicultural practices or other preventative measures. The Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre therefore announces an Associate Senior Lecturer position in forest pathology.
The Associate Senior Lecturer shall develop their own research profile within the subject area but with special emphasis on detection and monitoring, chemical ecology, and tree resistance to abiotic and biotic stress.
Duties
The holder is expected to:
• teach on basic- advanced and PhD-levels
• develop and lead successful research in the subject,
• develop and maintain national and international networks with researchers, industry, and society in general,
• communicate ongoing research and research results,
• acquire pedagogic skills by teaching and taking part in pedagogic training offered by EPU,
• contribute to Department’s research environment and communication activities, and
• actively apply for external research funding.
Qualifications
The applicant must:
• have obtained the degree of PhD in related subject area (forest pathology, plant pathology or chemical ecology). The PhD-exam should preferably not be older than five years, but special circumstances can motivate older PhD-exam. Examples of special circumstances are absence due to sick-leave or parental-leave etc.
• have proven scientific skills within the subject area of the position, and
• have good oral and written communication skills in English.
