Dalarna University and the Department for Regional Studies, Tourism Studies, has established CeTLeR, a centre for tourism research, and is now looking to recruit staff.
Employment Profile
This is a full-time, two-year position. There may be opportunity for an extension of a further two years. The date of commencement can be immediate and is upon agreement. Place of employment is Borlänge.
Field of Knowledge: General Information
Dalarna University’s Department of Tourism Studies focuses on international courses and programmes as well as research within the fields of Tourism and Regional Development. As an educational and research field, Tourism is cross-disciplinary in character. Other departments, such as Economics and Business Administration, collaborate with the Tourism Department.We are in a period of development, where we are deepening and broadening our collaboration with representatives from regional business and industry as well as with international collaborative partners/educational institutes. This position will have the important function of expanding the cross-disciplinary environment, and you will be expected to bring to it competence within the areas of Tourism and Events, in particular with focus on Destination Analysis using quantitative methods/GIS, or Events and Sustainability from an international perspective.
Work Responsibilities
In terms of research, the position will include research with specialisation in the field of Events. It will focus on instruction and course development in the Bachelor Programme in International Tourism Management and in the Master Programme in Tourism Destination Development. Since the subject has a number of external research projects, research will be part of the position.An important role of the successful candidate is that of link between the University and society and the establishment of contacts, and collaboration with business and industry and the public sector within the field.
Qualifications
According to the Higher Education Ordinance, to qualify as an Associate Senior Lecturer, you must hold a Degree of Doctor or have competence to equal this. Priority should be given to the candidate who holds a Degree of Doctor or who has achieved equivalent competence in the latest seven years prior to the deadline for application.
To qualify for this position, you must
- Hold a Degree of Doctor in Tourism Studies, Human Geography, Economics or Business Administration
- Have completed the courses in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education; (Högskolepedagogisk utbildning) or in another way achieved competence to equal this; and
- Have demonstrated teaching ability.
It is of credit if you have
- Documented experience of teaching within the relevant fields. These fields include Event Management; Event Tourism, Effects and Follow-Up; Sustainable Destination Development (from both a regional and an international perspective);
- The sound ability to express yourself both orally and in writing in English since English is the language of instruction and for research
- Research experience;
- Experience working in the area of collaboration;
- Experience teaching in English; and
- Experience with administrative work within the area of programme and course development as well as experience of management within universities or colleges.
