Welcome to the Institute of Medicine and the Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine. Our activities spans over large areas of knowledge, where we conduct successful research and education, from molecule to society. Our research is performed in close collaboration with the health care in the Västra Götaland region, focusing on Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The Institute of Medicine has an excellent track within cardiovascular and metabolic research with several world leaders in the field. In the present announcement, we are searching for an associate senior lecturer to join the Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine and the Wallenberg Laboratory for cardiovascular and metabolic research (https://wlab.gu.se/).

Translational medicine directed towards cardiovascular and/or metabolic research.
Subject area description
Research within the employment shall complement and strengthen existing activities at the Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine. That implies that the research activities in translational medicine shall be directed towards cardiovascular and/or metabolic research. The research should have a clear clinical relevance within the department’s areas of strength.
Job assignments
The job assignments include at first hand research within translational medicine directed towards cardiovascular and/or metabolic research. The successful candidate is expected to actively apply for external funding to build an independent research group and to actively participate in research collaborations within and outside the institute, nationally and internationally.
The job assignments include planning and performing teaching within in graduate and undergraduate programs, within the medical training and other educational programs where the institute contributes. In addition, teaching and tutoring of postgraduate student are also included.
The job assignments also include some administration related to research and teaching.
Eligibility
Eligibility for this employment are given in the of the Higher Education Ordinance and the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.
A PhD degree in a subject area relevant to the position or equivalent scientific competence is a requirement. An applicant with a degree that is judged to be comparable is also eligible. Preference is given to applicants who have been awarded a PhD degree, a comparable degree or achieved equivalent scientific competence no more than five years before the expiration date of this announcement. Applicants who have obtained a doctorate earlier may also be given primary consideration if there are special reasons. Special reasons include leave of absence due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances. The reasons and extent of leave of absence should be clearly specified in the application and confirmed by certificates. The employer assesses that clinical training or duty constitutes special reasons.
Ability to teach in English or Swedish is a requirement.

Employment
The employment is a full time temporary post for up to 4 years and is located at The Institute of Medicine.
The position as associate senior lecturer is the first level of the tenure track system at the University of Gothenburg. The position is defined as an appointment based on qualifications whereby the holder, if approved, is promoted to a permanent position as a senior lecturer. The employment can be renewed, but no more than for two years, if longer time is needed to meet the criteria because of sick leave, parental leave or other special reasons.
