Arbetsbeskrivning
Are you a trained organic chemist/synthesis chemist with practical experience of using lab automation technologies for setting up and running experiments and synthesizing new molecules? Are you interested in becoming part of an impactful team focusing on the autonomous synthesis of bioactive molecules at a company where we are committed to lifelong learning, growth, and development? This might be your next challenge!
We are looking for an Organic Chemist with extensive experience in applying laboratory automation technologies to the synthesis of new molecules to play a meaningful part in our iLAB team, focusing on building an industry-leading end-to-end chemistry automation platform. In this multidisciplinary, multinational team you can drive and advance our chemistry automation capabilities at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Thrive in a place where the brightest and most curious minds seamlessly come together in our inclusive environment.
What you will do:
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for the transfer of manually implemented compound synthesis to automation platforms. You will actively develop synthesis protocols for innovative chemistry transformations to be driven in a fully automated way. As well as be intimately involved in the build of a new end-to-end chemistry automation platform and work with colleagues on the design and implementation of novel automation workflows. You will also identify, test, and evaluate new devices. You will play an important role during factory and site acceptance test activities for the new platform and drive the use of these capabilities in AstraZeneca drug discovery projects.
During your work you will spend approximately 50% of your time in the laboratory investigating how manual syntheses must be modified to be driven in an automated way. You will transfer this knowledge to your colleagues to facilitate the automation of synthesis tasks requested by medicinal chemists from across the organization. During the other 50% of your time, you will work together with colleagues on the detailed specification for the future chemistry automation platform and function as an expert user of specific lab automation devices. As a Chemistry Automation Application Specialist, you will have access to the best internal and external science and be expected to enhance business reputation both internally and externally through peer-reviewed publications and oral/poster presentations.
Essential in the role:
You're a chemist with a track record of applying innovative chemistry and/or technology solutions, which result in impact on projects. You also have:
* Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a master's degree in chemistry with a minimum of five years industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
* Experience in planning and executing chemistry experiments in parallel and adapting existing protocols to new applications
* Hands on experience with creating custom lab automation workflows and a strong interest in developing new technologies for organic synthesis.
* Expertise in theoretical and practical organic synthesis, retrosynthesis, compound route design, purification, and analytical chemistry.
* Excellent knowledge of current chemical literature, chemical technologies, and innovations for driving project delivery.
We also believe that our new colleague is motivated to work effectively in a collaborative team and demonstrate ability to work across scientific fields to drive project success. The ideal candidate should have a scientific drive and a long-term commitment to advancing chemistry automation as an innovative tool in drug discovery.
