The Automation Lead is responsible for leading control and automation testing activities on project equipment during the project commissioning phase. While managing all control and automation related commissioning activities, the individual will also supervise blue collar instrument technicians. enforce personal safety and apply additional caution when commissioning testing overlap with site construction and operations.
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the Automation Lead is responsible for the full ownership of control and automation in Northvolt US1 Metal Dissolution Plant. The selected candidate will lead this function from commissioning planning, through construction completing, commissioning and successful handover of the function to Northvolt Client.

JOB DUTIES:
· Applying project safety management systems during commissioning activities, adapting them to the specific needs and any unique risks
· Health, safety and environmental performance for all personnel and facilities under their control during commissioning
· Managing commissioning control and automation team during testing including:
· Leading daily coordination meetings as required
· Managing and updating the work completion list
· Ensuring (and participating where possible) in turnover/handover walkdowns for their respective functions
· Assisting Commissioning Manager to hand over the commissioned equipment and system in satisfactory condition to Project Owner, along with appropriate documentation
· Coordinating vendor representative activities
· Monitoring safety isolation and tagging procedures, for personal safety and for protection of plant equipment during plant commissioning activities
· Safe and timely execution of all commissioning activities and integration of these activities with both project and owner’s team
· Coordinating with home office engineering to ensure that testing requirements are included in the design (for example, bypass lines, temporary power and water, module isolation valves)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Essential
· Graduate of a Bachelor of Engineering or Applied Science degree from an accredited university in the controls, electrical, mechatronics (or related) discipline. Academic courses should include Control Systems and Programming.
· Ten or more years of experience working in control and automation.
· Must have proven skills with instrument installation, calibration, PLC programming, and MS Office.
· Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, R, Python, LabView and real-time controllers an asset.
