ESS is now looking for an Automation Technician for the Motion Control & Automation Group (MCAG) organised within the Science Directorate. The MCAG is responsible for deploying PLC motion control systems for Neutron Scattering Instruments..

Job description

The successful candidate will join the Motion Control & Automation (MCA) Group in their commitment to support the construction and operation of Neutron Instruments.

Your main areas of responsibilities as an Automation Technician will be to:


• Support the design engineering efforts of the MCA Group with practical competence in automation components selection, cabling and electrical drawings
• Construction of prototype and test control crates and cabinets to be delivered to the instrument projects: electrical drawings, cabinet building, wiring and testing
• Construction of customized test hardware to support the motion control related parts of the Factory Acceptance Tests at the suppliers of instrument and control systems.
• Guide and supervise contractors, suppliers and in-kind partners personnel in building and installing motion control cabinets and cables on the Neutron Instrument according to ESS standards; support the commissioning
• Schedule and perform regular maintenance and service on Neutron Instruments in the operation phase; first contact for Instrument teams for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
• Responsible for MCA labs and workshops: plan and supervise installation and furnishing, perform regular safety checks and organise constant consumables and spare parts flow

On-call and shift work on weekends will most likely be part of the role to some extent.  

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:


• Profound and certified professional education in the field of Automation Technology (Electronics Technician, Industrial Electrician or similar certified professions); an additional certified Engineering School / Technical College qualification is a plus.
• 10+ years of practical experience in cabinet building and setting up automation control systems including installation, cabling according to wiring diagrams and testing; experience in termination of small signal cables with crimping and soldering connectors.
• Knowledge of wiring diagram software preferably ePlan.
• Knowledge of national and international norms, standards and best practices for cabling and installation.
• Experience in the design and programming of PLCs and motion control systems preferably for scientific large-scale user facilities and the knowledge of Beckhoff TwinCAT or another PLC Open system is a plus.
• Knowledge in machine safety (EN ISO 13849 and other relevant standards) is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage

You are service-minded, collaborative and responsible, and have good organisational skills. You should be self-motivated and driven, and be used to deliver according to deadlines. Writing and documenting your work comes naturally to you. It is important that you feel comfortable working in an international environment and interacting with people from different backgrounds.

Duration & Location

The position is a permanent position with a 6 months probationary period.

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
