Backend Engineer

We are now looking for a Backend Engineer to join our engineering department at our Video Optimization team in Stockholm.

Maximizing the reach and quality of streaming video communication is crucial for employee engagement and organizational alignment and doing it without overloading the network is a must. Our pledge is to optimize and deliver live and on-demand video streams in every way possible to achieve this. At the core of our technology lie our patented peer-to-peer distribution algorithms that help delivering high quality video to millions of enterprise viewers every month.

You will be the 5th member in the Video Optimization team in Stockholm consisting of full stack engineers and experienced researchers. You will be working closely with the Team Lead, Riccardo Reale.

In current times our engineers are working remotely, and we will continue so as we set digital workplace first.

As a Backend Engineer, your tasks may include:

- Building high-availability distributed systems.
- Maintaining existing code written mainly in Scala and Java.
- Migrating older software systems.
- Together with your team, deciding on specific architecture and designs.
- Cross-collaborating with team members and other departments; for example, design features/parts of the system with the Backend Engineers, determine the API specs and exposed data with the Frontend Engineers, and ensure alignment regarding customer needs with the Product Teams.


Previous Experience

- Five years of experience working with high-availability systems, multiple databases, and building APIs.
- Software development experience in Scala.
- Knowledge in Kafka, or other queues.
- Experience with Databases and in-memory stores (i.e. Redis).
- Knowledge of good software engineering practices, including design and architecture patterns.
- Preferably knowledge and experience in: WebSockets, Kubernetes, Security practices such as OWASP and CI/CD frameworks such as Azure DevOps.
- Great communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
