Team Platform, Data Foundations, Schibsted
The platform team is present to reduce engineering friction, by providing a set of tools and infrastructure to facilitate various software engineering activities in the department, e.g. setting up new services, batch jobs and in the future ML-pipelines, thereby accelerating our ability to scale and deliver business value.
This is a totally new team in Data Foundations, starting from July 2021. The team consists today of 3 senior engineers, and we will scale with 2 more people! Are you our next colleague, ready for new challenges in an inclusive, international and collaborative environment?
The team will drive towards a state, where it is as easy as possible for department members to contribute with their own competence in different teams in Data Foundations. This will be done by gradually establishing a homogeneous infrastructure, with a smaller number of AWS accounts and a common set of operational principles.
The role
- Proactively discover, understand, prioritize and eliminate engineering friction within Data Foundations.
- Actively identify and reduce duplication of infrastructure components.
- Keep track of our application security and perform necessary upgrades.
- Monitor and optimize the cost structure of Data Foundations.
- Secure adherence to best practices in collaboration with Tech Leads, Engineering Managers and the Data Foundations Architect.
Known immediate capabilities
- Ad-hoc infrastructure automation that ties together EKS and Cloudformation setup, written in Python.
- Diverse runtime environment (VM, serverless, container).
- CI/CD pipelines in Travis and Spinnaker, coming as an offer from a central team.
- How we perform operational metrics and monitoring (several DataDog accounts for metrics/alerting, Humio for logging, Pagerduty for high severity alerts).
- Facilitating on-call within Data Foundations - owning the process, coordinating post mortems after incidents and driving work on process improvements after incidents.
Your Experience
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, including: IAM, Cloudformation, VPC, Route53, Secretsmanager, Kinesis, SQS, S3.
- Experience working with different runtime environments: k8s, EC2, Lambda.
- Knowledge about common AWS SDKs to use when developing services and applications on AWS.
- Interest in having a broad impact in our organisation by understanding and reducing cross-team dependencies, also keeping relationships in mind while engineering solutions.
- Strong communication skills both written and oral, and a great team spirit.
- Familiarity with devops practices, system administration, networking or distributed systems are all advantageous.
- Plus: great experience on working with remote cross-functional teams with different nationalities.
