Who are we?
Everything we do starts with people. Our purpose is to provide freedom to move, in a personal, sustainable and safe way. We are committed to simplifying our customers’ lives by offering better technology solutions that improve their impact on the world and bringing the most advanced mobility innovations to protect them, their loved ones and the people around them.
Volvo Cars’ continued success is the result of a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive working environment. The people of Volvo Cars are committed to making a difference in our world. Today, we are one of the most well-known and respected car brands, with over 40,000 employees across the globe. We believe in bringing out the best in each other and harnessing the true power of people. At Volvo Cars your career is designed around your talents and aspirations so you can reach your full potential. Join us on a journey of a lifetime as we create safety, autonomous driving and electrification technologies of tomorrow.
Background
As part of our mission to enable the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable, and safe way we have just launched our first-generation battery electric vehicles; the XC40 and C40 Recharge. They are powered by an in-house designed battery developed by our great battery team in Gothenburg. To follow this, we are now working on the next-generation electric vehicle batteries that will propel our future products.
Unique Opportunity to Make Real Impact
Volvo Cars commits to be leading in electrification and, in 2030, our aim is that all our vehicles will be electrical. Therefore, we need to deepen our involvement in all aspects of battery development. Are you ready to take the lead and increase our ability to deliver battery systems that make us reach our aim? Do you have an interest in mechanical, chemical and electrical engineering? Then this is the role for you to prosper!
We are looking to strengthen our team with an expert on battery systems and how to integrate the battery in our future cars. The mission is simple: to beat all competition on the market. You will get the chance to be involved from the early concept phase, you will have an eye on research, or if you like, even be involved. You will drive innovation in collaboration with our partners (for example Northvolt) and ensure that we have the best technology around the battery cells, in order for the new heart of our vehicle to connect in the best possible way with the rest of the body. You get the heart to beat!
Your Contribution
• Innovate new solutions ensuring that the battery cells are integrated efficiently into the battery system, balancing cost, manufacturability and performance
• Contribute to a strategic roadmap that ensures Volvo Cars take the lead in electrification
• Connect to leading research groups to catch the latest technical breakthroughs
• Determine system level targets and tech needed to deliver on them
Your Skills
We think that a M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Chemistry or similar) will be a good foundation for you to stand on, although a solid experience in Li-ion Battery Development is what will be crucial. Preferably you have gained your experience from another OEM, but of course, we are aware there are great suppliers out there and we welcome you as well! If you have been involved in creating strategic roadmaps before it is star potential.
You are bold and committed to making ground-breaking innovations together with others to contribute to a safer and more sustainable future!
