Role Overview

The Battery Technology & Management Engineer reports to the Head of Airborne Equipment Development and is responsible for the definition of battery technology at the cell, module, and pack level for application in qualified airborne battery systems. This role covers the selection of suitable cell technology, and the development of applicable mattery management functions.

You will initially be responsible for establishing our in-house battery technology capabilities, including definition of processes, procedures and necessary tools/test equipment. You will also assist with the development of a battery technology roadmap and implementation strategy.

You will be part of a small multi-functional team, closely working with the hardware development, software development, equipment integration, validation & verification, and equipment qualification groups.

As part of the Airborne Equipment Development team, you will be an internal supplier of equipment and systems to the aircraft system integration groups. You will therefore support the Airborne Equipment Development team at program/technical reviews.

As part of our approved Design Organization, you will also be responsible for ensuring adherence to all engineering processes/standards.

Qualifications & Experience

-
Graduate degree in aerospace, aeronautical, electrical, or equivalent experience.

Minimum 5 years experience in a battery system engineering position within an aerospace or automotive application.

Experience with systems & equipment development programs through the entire design, development & certification lifecycle.

Direct experience of high-energy battery systems including cell selection, battery management function, battery performance and safety aspects.

Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English.

Passion for aircraft and Heart’s mission.


The ideal candidate would have

-
Experience working in an aerospace start-up environment.

-
Experience working in an EASA Part 21J Design Organization, or international equivalent.

-
Knowledge of airborne Lithium-Ion battery qualification standards (RTCA DO-311A)

-
Knowledge of airborne systems engineering for safety critical systems (SAE ARP 4754/4761).

-
Proficiency coordinating activities of sub-contract and supplier companies.
