Beamline scientist at NanoMAX

Beamline scientist at NanoMAX

Arbetsbeskrivning

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and more than 8 000 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

NanoMAX is currently the only hard x-ray nanoprobe beamline at MAX IV, designed for imaging and scattering experiments that can utilize a focused coherent beam to achieve ultimate resolution, such as eg.

, ptychography and coherent diffraction imaging, or where the nanofocused beam provides prime spatial resolution to scanning diffraction and fluorescence mapping experiments.

The successful candidate will join the NanoMAX team to ensure optimal operation of the two NanoMAX instruments, including functional data acquisition and analysis workflows. You will take part in the commissioning and development of the beamline plus its end-stations, as well as driving your own projects within science and/or method development.

Your role:

- You will actively help maintain and develop the beamline, the end-stations and data processing tools, as part of the NanoMAX team
- You will support users during the planning, setup, and execution of experiments, and be available to participate in the development of user sample environments for nanoprobe experiments
- As a scientist, you are expected to take a leading role within a scientific research area or novel nanoprobe method(s) relevant to the beamline, and promote this program within the (prospective) user community and at conferences

Your qualifications:

- PhD in natural sciences in a subject relevant to NanoMAX
- Demonstrated knowledge of x-ray techniques appropriate for NanoMAX and experience with the use of scanning or coherent imaging approaches
- Good Python programming skills, working knowledge of collaborative software development tools, and extensive experience with the implementation of data acquisition or analysis algorithms
- You are interested in interdisciplinary research and able to work effectively with research groups of very diverse backgrounds as well as engineers and technicians
- You have a good track record of published articles in peer reviewed journals highlighting findings from your research and experimental activities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Good command of English, good communication and team working skills

The following qualification is considered an asset:

- Experience in instrumentation development, particularly including timing, nano-positioning and/or scanning

Probationary period may apply.

On call services may apply in the future.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset. We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
