Bioinformatics Scientist CVMD Translational Science Department

The arena
As a Principal Bioinformatics Scientist in the Translational Science organization you will play a key role in supporting pre-clinical and early clinical projects with evaluation of drug targets, translational strategies including biomarker discovery, human target validation and clinical project planning. In addition, you will be expected to propose, champion and develop new scientific ideas and concepts and provide expert advice to senior scientific leadership. You will participate in external collaborations, contributing to study design, evaluating data and providing your expertise to progress research programs. You will also be expected to identify and establish access to external bioinformatics resources and data to strengthen data platforms and leverage unique capabilities.
In addition, the role holder will coach and support scientists within CVMD by advising and challenging them, but also by providing expert advice and interpretation of complex data. The role holder will also provide discipline based scientific leadership and represent the department and AstraZeneca at interdisciplinary meetings internally as well as externally.
The role
This is a senior scientific role within the Translational Science department. The role holder is also expected to work across the Translational Science department along with other senior scientists to provide scientific leadership. The role holder is expected to use their skills, experience and judgement to identify and drive areas for build and improvement in the field of Bioinformatics and work collaboratively with relevant disciplines within CVMD, Early Clinical, Clinical and R&D Information organizations to address those needs.
Key Accountabilities and Deliverables
Will perform in silico analysis to identify potential novel biomarkers and to assess the human validity of target concepts in close collaboration with projects disease area teams and other functions.
Will work closely with the teams within Translational Science and with disease areas and projects and contribute with scientific input.
Will perform data mining and interpretation of expression profiling and omics data.
Will utilize biomedical entity relationship software?s to perform pathway analysis for biomarker development
Will carry out data analysis of large datasets to drive the discovery and application of biomarkers in translational sciences and iMed
To work closely with cell biologists and biomarker specialists within the Translational Science department to develop and implement scientific strategies
Collaborate with the Personalized Healthcare organization and transfer knowledge between functions in relation to omics and bioinformatic analyses
