Arbetsbeskrivning
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at ki.se/meb
Division
We now seek a qualified new member for the Applied Biostatistics group (ABS), a consulting unit that provides statistical support for researchers and students in epidemiology at MEB.
The ABS is part of the larger biostatistics group at the department, which consists of ca. 40 people with varying backgrounds. This is a position in an open and dynamic research environment with great opportunities for professional development and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Tasks and responsibilities
As a member of the ABS, you will work in research projects in a wide range of medical applications, with primary focus on studies in molecular epidemiology. Your main tasks are:
- Contributing statistical and bioinformatics expertise to epidemiological research at MEB. This involves planning, design and analysis of studies, as well as interpretation and presentation of results in scientific articles.
- Providing practical support and supervision in statistics, bioinformatics and programming for researchers and PhD-students
- Participating in secure data management and research documentation development at the department
- Participating in teaching, subject to requirements and interests.
This position can to some extent be adapted to your competence, experience and interests. There are also possibilities for pursuing your own research in biostatistics, epidemiology or bioinformatics as part of your employment. We see participation in courses, both internal and external, as well as conferences as a natural part of your professional development.
Qualifications
You need to have either
- a degree in statistics, mathematics, data science or bioinformatics, combined with either courses or practical experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology or genetics;
- a degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology or genetics, combined with either advanced courses in statistics, mathematics, data science or bioinformatics, or extensive experience in statistics and data analysis.
As working with people in other specialties is a large part of this job, you need to be structured and self-reliant, and able to work on multiple projects in parallel. Excellent communication skills and good command of spoken and written English are important; knowledge of Swedish is a plus, but not required. We expect you to be motivated to expand your knowledge in biostatistics, epidemiology and medicine/biology, as required
Experience in data analysis and visualization with high-level programming languages such as R, Python or Perl is a requirement for this position. We consider familiarity with other programming languages as well as with relational databases and SQL as additional qualifications. Experience in any of the following areas is also desirable: research in medicine or biology; data analysis in genome-wide association studies, DNA sequencing, epigenetics, metabolomics, proteomics, gene expression or metagenomics; working in Linux/UNIX and with high performance computing/parallelization; data management and research documentation.
Application process
The application is to be submitted on the MyNetwork recruitment system.
