The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is an international centre for fundamental research. It is Europe's leading facility for neutron science and operates the brightest neutron source in the world, delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific instruments. Every year, the Institute hosts over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to carry out world-class research in condensed matter physics, crystallography, soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. The Projects and Techniques Division, which is responsible for the development of the ILL's scientific instruments and for technical support, currently has a vacancy for a:
Boilermaker
Duties:
You will be working in the Building and Site Maintenance Service's boilermaking workshop responsible for the following tasks:
- Producing or modifying sheet-metal or machine-welded assemblies, and their installation or adaptation to the experimental areas
- General metalwork and fitting.
Qualifications and experience:
We are looking for a vocational training certificate in metalworking (RQF level 1 or 2, or equivalent) with knowledge and/or experience in the following areas:
- Work on carbon or stainless steel, aluminium, copper or plastic
- ARC, TIG, MIG, semi-automatic welding, torching and brazing
- Marking and milling
- Handling and assembly of prefabricated units
- Reading of production plans and sketches, taking of measurements, for the production of simple units.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
