At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 75,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.
Could you be the full-time Firmware Developer / Architect in Vasteras we’re looking for?
Your future role
The transformation towards sustainable mobility drives demand for railway capacity, and we have been the forefront of this journey for decades. To stay in this position, we need to recruit firmware design engineer to our Gate Drive Unit (GDU) team.
The GDU is at the heart of the electrical traction system and controls output voltage to the motors by the use of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). The GDU is vital for energy efficient and reliable transportation. The build-up of the GDU consists of dedicated hardware/electronics and FPGA firmware (VHDL). The implemented firmware constitutes of essential and core features concerning the control, supervision of the IGBT’s and communication to other embedded systems.
The FW Design Engineer is engaged in all phases of the project such as requirements management, architecture documentation, implementation of VHDL code as well as verification and testing of the design. Main technical aspects of the job include analogue and digital electronic design in addition to VHDL programming.
Take on a new challenge and develop your Firmware and VHDL expertise within Alstom and work alongside passionate, motivated, and dedicated teammates.
We’ll look to you for :
Develop new and maintain existing FW (firmware), VHDL implementations.
Develop HW/FW architecture solutions.
Take part in developing and improving on processes (methods and instructions) and tools used within FW development
Interaction with other functions and stakeholders within the traction engineering platform products.
Ensure that the functional roadmap with respect to FPGA development fulfils the requirements of upcoming bids and delivery projects
All about you
We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:
Relevant academic background, e.g. Master’s Degree in Electronics, or similar
At least 3 years of experience with VHDL (very high description language) and electronic design
Experience of working with industrial electronics and FW for embedded systems
Knowledge about electronics (PCBA) manufacturing and its processes
Knowledge about testing, both in production and during development
Good documentation and presentation skills.
Experience from similar designs, combination of GDU – IGBT control solutions, is considered an advantage.
Knowledge and experience of railway and safety standards, e.g. EN50155, EN50121-3-2 and 50657/50129 is beneficial
Swedish & English at a fluent level is mandatory for this role
Things you’ll enjoy
Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:
Enjoy stability, challenges and a long-term career free from boring daily routines
Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues
Contribute to innovative projects
Utilise our hybrid working environment
Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries
Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning
Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognizes your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)
You don't need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you'll be proud. If you're up for the challenge, we'd love to hear from you!
