Role and responsibilities:
As Business controller for compliance and internal control, you develop the financial management and internal control systems in Diakonia. You are part of the Department for Operational Support and Finances. You supervise and coach a team of Finance and Admin staff across the regions and country offices. You will work closely with colleagues in Diakonia´s regional and country offices, as well as with partners, donors and networks. This position reports to the Global Director for Operational Support and Finance placed in Sweden. Your main responsibilities include:
Contribute to the overall management and strategic development of Diakonia´s financial management work, internal control systems and grant management work.
Oversee and support program/financial operations and project implementation through national partners, ensuring quality/adherence to internal and external standards.
Providing support to the programmes, liaising with programmes to enhance learning and coordinating the reporting process.
Develop and update methods, guidelines and routines for applications, budgeting and handling of agreements with institutional donors and systematically compile and share knowledge from these processes.
Support Diakonia's regional and country offices for efficient resource mobilization and contract management as well as quality assurance in reporting.
Monitor PME handbook compliance by programmes.
Continuous reinforcement of partner understanding of Diakonia for effective partnership development.
Quality review, development and assurance of tools, processes and documents to ensure alignment with Diakonia steering documents.
Continuous review of documented methodology to include clarifications and incorporation of new learnings and experiences.
Ensuring and strengthening internal control and accountability procedures and systems.
Functional supervision of the Finance staff in the regions and country offices.
Involve in the update of the business policies and manage their implementation.
Ensure that Diakonia and its partners are compliant with requirements and standards as stated in agreements and policies.
Experience and qualifications:
We are looking for an experienced professional with a strategic, flexible and solution-oriented mindset. You have a high integrity and value accountability and quality and believe in teamwork. You are pro-active and well organized and have excellent communication skills both speaking and writing, including using digital tools. We also want you to have the following qualifications:
University degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting and Finance or other related field.
Demonstrated experience in financial management, grant management and internal control systems.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated experiences working in an International Organisation.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others.
Good interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
Fluency in English.
This is a plus:
Experience working within the humanitarian/development sector.
Spoken and/or written Spanish, Arabic and/or French.
