Vattenfall is one of Europe´s largest electricity generators and producer of heat and operates in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. Our strategy is to reduce emissions from power generation with a road map to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

We are looking for a Cable Engineer – Cable Design & Modelling to work within our Business Area Wind, Offshore, Engineering.
The Engineering department is the technical know-how centre within Business Area Wind, setting technical standards and guidelines. Engineering is an integral part of our projects, both throughout the development and implementation phases as well as in operations.

The Cable Engineer will be working within the HV Cables Technology department in the Electrical Infrastructure area of Engineering. The Cable Engineer shall provide technical expertise primarily on matters related to cable and accessory design as well as modelling and simulation across the entire portfolio and lifetime of our offshore windfarms.
The role will be based in one of Vattenfall’s office locations in Sweden or in Hamburg, Kolding, Hexham or London with frequent travel to other offices/suppliers required.

Key Responsibilities;
• Contribute to maintaining high levels of health and safety performance across all activities to deliver inherently safer projects and working environments.
• Provide expertise on design aspects of HV cables and accessories across the offshore portfolio and full wind farm lifecycle.
• Develop cable system models, perform thermal simulations and cable ampacity calculations.
• Set the framework for cable rating assessments for both development and operational sites including the usage of finite element analysis (e.g. COMSOL)
• Develop and maintain technical documentation related to cable system design, simulation and modelling. Act as creator and reviewer of key technical documentation.
• Deliver portfolio benefits across the BA Wind fleet through leading a range of technical topics spanning the entire project lifecycle.
• Work with lessons learned from across the fleet and lifecycle.
• Build and utilize a network of internal/external competence to deliver technical leadership of cable design, simulation and modelling.
• Follow and evaluate industry developments towards improvements in the field of cable design, simulation and modelling.
• Support Product and Package Engineering teams to inject technical leadership into Product Development, Project Delivery and Operations.

Your background:
• B.Sc or M.Sc in Electrical engineering or similar
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience with high voltage on- and offshore cable design and manufacturing
• Comprehensive knowledge of HV submarine cables including cable design and relevant standards
• Both practical and theoretical experience with cable modelling and simulation
• Experience with finite element method and simulations (preferably COMSOL)
• Ability to identify and lead key technical topics relating to HV cables, balancing both technical and commercial imperatives
• Proven experience in project management and leading work packages
• Good English language skills and preferable also good German and/or Danish language skills
• Willingness to travel
• High degree of self-motivation with a flexible approach to work
• Having worked e.g. with cable manufacturer, engineering company with dedicated cable competence or certification body is a plus
