CAE Engineer - Powertrain Engineering

Powertrain Concept & Advanced Engineering has the leading role for the Powertrain unit deliveries in concept phase and technology development (AE). The main task for the section is to lead, analyse and develop concepts and system solutions for propulsion systems including hybrid systems in the next generation of Volvo Car vehicles. The group, CAE Powertrain strategy and concepts, is responsible for analysing concepts and system solutions for propulsion systems including hybrid systems in Volvo Car Group vehicles. Consisting of 10 people, the group are working with CAE simulations for the properties drivability and performance and powertrain energy consumption.
We are now looking for a new colleague to take on the role as CAE Engineer. You will work in VSIM, which is a simulation program for performance, energy consumption and drivability in complete powertrains and vehicles. The responsibility of the CAE Engineers in the VSIM team is to build simulation models of new powertrain technology including controls and increase the precision in current VSIM models. You will have an important part in the early stages of the projects.

Main responsibilities

* Development of new powertrain models
* Simulation of powertrain attributes with focus on energy consumption, performance, driveability, NVH and emissions
* Support powertrain system design engineers, attribute leaders and advanced engineering projects with powertrain attribute estimations
* To succeed with this it is important to have a good knowledge of the physics of the drivetrain. It is also important to focus on details, documentation and have good traceability of the work that is performed.

Required qualifications

* Master of Science in, Mechanical, Applied Physics, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent
* Experience from Matlab/Simulink
* Experience and good knowledge in model development and model calibration
* Good knowledge of the energy processes in combustion engines and hybrid powertrains
* Good knowledge of energy consumption for propelling a vehicle
* Fluent in English, written and spoken
* Experience of simulation of performance and fuel consumption in VSIM, GT Suite, AVL cruise or equivalent systems is meritorious
* Experience of algorithm development in control systems is meritorious
* Experience of development of controls- and/or diagnostic-systems in the Automotive industry is meritorious
* Experience of the following systems: Dymola, Modelica, SVN, LATEX and Mode Frontier is meritorious
