CAE Engineer Durability
At Research & Development you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. The Durability department consists of two CAE and six test groups. The department is responsible for the attributes Strength & Endurance, Corrosion, Retained Newness and Fire Safety. The responsibility includes target setting and analyses & verification by use of CAE, testing in lab and on proving ground. The CAE teams perform strength, fatigue and load analyses for the design areas Body and Exterior, Interior, and Chassis, mainly in the development phase in new car projects.
As a CAE Engineer Durability you will work with strength and fatigue analysis in car projects and also contribute to our method development. The tasks vary from component and system analyses to full car simulations. The CAE groups work with Finite Element analysis of metallic thin sheet welded structures as well as solid casted components. A new challenge is to analyse plastic and composite materials subjected both to mechanical and thermal loads.
Main responsibilities
* Gathering of necessary background information, modeling, analyses and recommendations to the design engineers
* Report to task leader within the CAE team who leads and distributes the tasks of the team within each car project
* Work closely with design engineers, attribute leaders and test engineers
Required qualifications
* M.Sc. in Mechanical, Civil Engineering or similar
* Good knowledge about mechanics and dynamics and/or strength of materials corresponding master-level courses
* Good knowledge of Finite Element simulations
* Fluent in English, written and spoken
* An asset would be knowledge of FE tools ANSA, Nastran, ABAQUS and LS Dyna
* Topology optimization tools such as OptiStruct or similar is meritorious
* MBS simulations, preferably in Adams/Car is meritorious
Personal qualities
* Strong analytical capability
* Ability to both work independently and in teams
* Strong communication skills as well as a positive mind set
