CAE Engineer Structural Analysis Engine Exhaust System Hot Side

Volvo Cars Engine Development is responsible for the development of all engines in Volvo car vehicles. The section Analysis and verification is responsible for engine CAE activities as well as functional and durability testing. Engine CAE Solids is responsible for advanced technical calculations within the area of Structural analysis (FEM), Power train dynamics and different types of mechanical analysis on the sub systems. Analyses are performed on different system levels such as complete powertrain, complete engine and engine components with the overall purpose of developing attributes, dimensioning components and virtually verify different technical solutions.

As CAE Engineer Structural Analysis Engine Exhaust System Hot Side, you will perform calculation based analysis of the strength and durability of the exhaust manifold, turbo charger and exhaust after treatment system. The position includes a very tight cooperation with the design engineers and the area itself is very important since it has a great impact on engine performance, emissions and fuel economy. CAE has a key role to find solutions that will meet the different requirements. All this together gives you the possibility to learn and grow both when it comes to technical skills as well as building networks and knowledge of important engine systems.

Main responsibilities

* Temperature and low cycle fatigue analysis
* Vibration analysis and the corresponding high cycle fatigue assessment. One key element is to find a trade of between low and high cycle fatigue
* Work in close cooperation with the design teams. You will take an active part in development projects as well as in method development within the area. Tools used are mainly ABAQUS and ANSA
* The work includes the complete process from modelling, performing calculations, analysing results and issue recommendations

Required qualifications

* M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the programs Applied Mechanics, Automotive or similar
* At least 3-5 years of experience of structural analysis using FEM
* Experience and knowledge of structural analysis of components exposed to thermal loads
* Experience and knowledge of structural analysis of components exposed to vibrations
* Experience of using the soft wares ABAQUS and ANSA
* Structural analysis of combustion Engines is meritorious
* Structural analysis of hot side components of a combustion engine is meritorious
* Knowledge of combustion engines is meritorious
* Experience of scripting using Python, Matlab or similar is meritorious
* Fluent in English (written and spoken)
