What do we offer?

The battery technology continuously undergoes rapid and frequent changes. Mastering the batteries by having the cell technology competence is one of the main keys for a successful electrification of our vehicles. We are now in the beginning of this very exciting journey.

At Traction Battery System, we are passionate! The section is responsible for developing the high voltage battery systems. We are the core competence centre in Northern Europe in regards to Li-ion technology and automotive battery systems.

We are now looking for someone to expand our Battery Cell team! As Cell Durability Engineer you will be part of defining the battery cell durability based on test data from suppliers and internal testing.

We are responsible for future cell strategies and to support cell suppliers and material companies to develop cells tailored for Volvo Cars attribute requirements. The team is also responsible for the battery usage strategies to make sure we have a reliable battery performance & durability in our electrified vehicles. We have the cell chemistry competence to support performance and life model development, performance and life testing and the system safety team with cell safety knowledge.

What you’ll do
You will be responsible for analysing data from life testing of battery cells, modules and packs to be used for life predictions. In order to do so you will work in close cooperation with the CAE, Testing, Cell, Module and System team. You will ensure that the test has been performed according to specification and review the life predictions delivered from the CAE team to validate the result. You will also be a part of defining the life test matrix and plan required tests for a specific application.

You will work with both BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) and PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) applications comparing life predictions with vehicle data to validate state of health. You will also validate life model and customer assumptions to vehicle data including developing methods for performing vehicle tests. In addition you will contribute to further develop our life prediction models for better predictions in the future and optimize total life test matrix to reduce time in test facilities.

Do you fit the profile?
We see that you have a master’s degree in Chemistry, Technical Mathematics, Applied Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. You have practical experience in handling large amount of data, see patterns and develop automatic data analysis tools. You possess knowledge of chemistry, aging over time and Li-ion battery or comparable technology. It is beneficial if you have experience from automotive industry.

As a person, you have high integrity, professionalism and are very adaptable. You need to possess strong analytical skills and have a problem solving approach throughout the working process. To success in this role, we see that you are comfortable taking the lead. You are a reliable team player with excellent communication skills who enjoys working in teams with diversity. A positive mind-set and inner motivation will be keys to excel, but taking initiatives and having a self-drive will give you additional power to fully succeed!

You are fluent in English (written and spoken) and holds a driver`s license B.
