Where You’ll Belong
At Electric Propulsion we constitute the core competence center in Northern Europe regarding Li-ion technology and automotive battery systems. We are responsible for future cell strategies and to support cell suppliers and material companies to develop tailormade cells for Volvo Cars, but also to find solutions for Polestar, Lotus, Lync&co, Zeekr and Geely.
Cell Usage & Durability Group
We are an international team with a wide range of competencies, which in combination with cross-functional work, enables fast learning and growth. We have fun together not only at work, hopefully, you want to try frisbee golf, go-kart or some other exciting activity at our next After Work! Some of us were totally new to Sweden when we joined, so we know the challenges that might bring, and we will make sure that you feel welcome.
Work-life Balance is something that infuses Volvo Cars, one of our teammates describes it as good management with horizontal integration. What does work-life balance mean to you? Maybe it is to have a home-baked “fredagsfika” or the benefit of our family bond*, anyhow we will not make you disappointed in this area!
*The Family Bond by Volvo Cars is our new all-gender, paid parental leave policy – with this, we give all Volvo Cars employees with at least one year's service 24 weeks of parental leave at 80 percent of their base pay by default.
Let’s Dig into the Tech!
We are divided into five focus areas, safety, durability, performance, design and integration. Each of these competence areas is responsible for cell and module delivery into our vehicles. The battery packs are designed and assembled in-house which requires a close relationship between the different design teams to ensure the vehicle requirements are fulfilled. We also have close contact with our cell suppliers and work in close cooperation with calibration, CAE and testing.
You will get the chance to be involved from the concept phase to the vehicle release. You will also be a part of aftermarket activities such as customer study on vehicles that have been several years on the field and quality improvement activities.
For the future we collaborate closely with universities, establish a research team in California and we now have a joint venture with Northvolt.
Your Contribution
We are looking for a teammate with experience in cell design and/or cell integration and production, who shares our passion for Li-ion battery technology. Have you been the main contact person between battery suppliers and OEMs? Then it is star potential.
To thrive in the role, you need to appreciate interaction with different stakeholders. We have contact with external suppliers daily, doing sourcing, always with an ethical and sustainable focus. We also interact a lot with different internal stakeholders due to that the cell is a key component and a lot of teams depend on our input. For us, it is important that you enjoy sharing information and knowledge with your colleagues.
If you choose to dive into the safety area, you will also need to be familiar with safety standards (for example ISO 26262) and abuse testing standards, here knowledge of cell/module/pack test development will also be blinding.
Which Area Do You Want to Deep Dive into?
• Cell Safety - design and integrate cells in a way that ensures we keep the lead in safety.
• Cell Performance - cell design and system implementation that leads to battery performance that makes us leaders in electrification.
• Cell Design - with the aim to be able to design, develop and manufacture cells on our own.
• Cell Durability - cell design and system implementation that leads to battery durability that makes us leaders in electrification.
• Cell Integration - develop and deliver high-quality cells, cell modules, swelling pads and integrate them into the vehicle.
