For a consultant assignment during 6 months at AstraZeneca in Mölndal we are now looking for a Celluar Assay Development Scientist.

The arena
Discovery Science is a global function within Innovative Medicines, IM, in AstraZeneca. Discovery Science supports innovative medicine project teams from multifunctional capability centers in Alderley Park, Boston and Mölndal. Discovery Sciences is mainly involved in early lead generation through the late lead optimization stage of drug discovery. It is composed of several capabilities where Reagents and Assay Development (RAD) is one among several others such as Screening Sciences and Structure & Biophysics. This position will be placed in the RAD Department where we focus on delivering different types of reagents and assays with high impact into the drug development.

The role
To be lab-based, providing strong expertise in the competency of Cellular Assay Development and Cell Science. This will involve proposing experimental strategies, troubleshooting problems and to make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of projects in accordance with SHE requirements and in compliance with all AZ Corporate responsibility policies.

The kind of assays to be developed are Cell Assays based on live mammalian cells. There are multiple types of read-out and assay types and the successful candidate has documented experiences of developing cellular assays.

Other important qualifications
- Expertise in assay development and full statistical assay validation for screening
- Theoretical understanding of assay design relevant to the pharmacology
- Practical understanding of assay optimisation, including statistical tools such as factorial experimental design, to enable generation of robust, reproducible and sensitive assays
- Thorough understanding of cell based assay technology platforms and ability to troubleshoot
- Experience in assay development for label free platforms
- Knowledge of detection technologies, including spectroscopic (e.g. absorbance, fluorescence modalities), luminescent and label-free detection
- Understanding of data analysis and conversion of screening data to biological parameters
- Strong experience in cell biology
- Experience in the functional characterization of cells
- Expertise in the development of stable cell lines

Preferred experience/requirements
It is desirable to have a Ph. D. degree or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline with experience in drug discovery. All backgrounds are interesting but experiences from the pharma industry in general and from AstraZeneca in particular is desirable.
