Information about the research and the department
The AoP and OSO divisions seek for an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to carry out an independent research program that stimulates and fosters collaboration between the two divisions. The position has a horizon for up to 3 years (initial assignment of 2 years), generous research budget, and ample possibilities for collaborations.
As the successful candidate you are expected to lead a research program, or be involved in development activities, that reinforce the collaboration between the two divisions. For a successful application, we encourage emphasis on this collaborative aspect. We recommend contact with the AoP and OSO scientists in preparation of the application (see the AoP and OSO homepages for staff lists). You are expected to organise collaborative activities also beyond the immediate research project and participate in building a positive, inclusive work environment at the divisions.
The Space, Earth and Environment (SEE) department at Chalmers hosts about 50 staff members involved in astronomy, in fields such as active galactic nuclei, evolved stars, exoplanets, galaxy evolution, interstellar medium, star formation, as well as radioastronomical instrumentation and data processing. These activities are carried over in two divisions of SEE, the Astronomy and Plasma physics division (AoP) and the Onsala Space Observatory (OSO).
Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as a Chalmers Astronomy Fellow is to lead your own research program that is highly synergistic with the interests of the AoP and OSO divisions. The position includes an expectation to engage in building collaborative activities also beyond the immediate research project and to participate in building a positive, inclusive work environment at the two divisions.
Qualifications
To qualify for these postdoc fellowship positions, you must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field for example astronomy, physics, or similar, by the start date of the position. The positions also require sound verbal and written communication skills in English.
Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is an initial assignment of 2 years, with possible extension for up to 1 year.
