About the company
The department Materials and Chemical Laboratory is organized within Engineering Operations at GKN
Aerospace Engine Systems in Trollhättan, Sweden. The department consists of different areas working with
Metallographic engineering and Chemical engineering. Together we are a total of 25 engineers.
Our main responsibilities are to support GKN AES production, Programs within commercial, military, space and
Research center with Laboratory investigations.
There is a broad range of tasks within the laboratory, from conducting research of new materials and processes to
improvements, problem solving and laboratory investigations in current production. Our customers are Value Streams within RnT, Product Development, external customers and Production. We continuously strive towards better performance through continuous improvement work and working close to customers.
Job description
The roles within Materials and Chemical Laboratory are roughly divided within two areas, Metallographic Engineer and Chemical Laboratory Engineer. We are seeking a Chemical laboratory Engineer with ability to perform and develop chemical but also powder related metallographic analysis investigations as well as building a good dialog with customers/operators to support of our processes.
The work responsibility includes:
• Preparation and evaluation of liquids and other type of materials i.e powder, plastic or metallographic analysis for both standard and research tests
• Documentation of results by writing technical reports
• Customer support - we work closely with our internal and external customers to meet customer requirements. That includes amongst other things to support process operators in surface treatment area, test cells or machine shops
• Technical studies for new capabilities and developments of test methods
• Create and review Quality system procedures within our accredited approval scope
• Continuous improvement work together with colleagues within the other fields at the Materials Laboratory
• Create request for external specific laboratory test or review tests and capability from other laboratory sources outside our own competence
Your profile
• You are an MSc Chemical Engineer with preferably documented, for the position, relevant technical experience
• Experience from laboratory including the standard used equipment’s, SEM, EDX, FT-IR, ICP, titration equipment, manual titrations, sieve analysis. Also handy with analysis of chemicals as acids, cutting fluids, oil, fuel and instruments for analysis. Valued if used metallographic preparation and light microscope
• Driven person with sense of responsibility for safety with personal, environment and for others
• Analytic skills and ambition to continuously learn and improve
• Ability to take on tasks with tight deadline and deliver according to agreed plans and goals
• Quality minded and problem solving proficient
• Communication skills in Swedish and English, spoken as well as written
• Thorough knowledge of common IT tools (MS Office), truechem, chemsoft, statistic tools and SAP
• Open minded and flexible person with positive attitude that likes teamwork
• Technical knowledge of our products and their manufacturing processes is valued
