The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/en/departments/aquatic-sciences-assessment/) is divided into four divisions: Microbial ecology, Ecology and Biodiversity, Geochemistry and Hydrology, and Environmental Organic Chemistry, each of which has associated laboratories for research and environmental monitoring. The laboratories at Organic Environmental Chemistry analyse organic micropollutants at trace levels in different environmental matrices and has a mass spectrometry facility including LC-MS/MS, LC/GC-HRMS and GC-MS/MS instrumentation.

Duties:
You will work at the laboratories at the Division for Environmental Organic Chemistry, where you will be responsible for analytical work within environmental monitoring and research on organic micropollutants (e.g., PFAS, pesticides and pharmaceuticals). This includes sample preparation, mass spectrometry (MS) analysis, quantification, data evaluation and QA/QC work. Maintaining, troubleshooting and developing new methods are also included in the duties, primarily for LC-MS/MS and LC-HR/MS instrumentation but also GC-MS and GC-MS/MS. Other duties include field sampling, sample handling, practical supervision of Master students, PhD students and guest researchers.

Qualifications:
We are looking for a candidate with a master degree in chemistry or a doctorate in environmental chemistry/analytical chemistry or equivalent. Particular emphasis will be placed on experience of trace analysis using the above mentioned techniques (mainly LC-MS/MS) and basic service and maintenance work on analytical instruments. Experience of GC-MS and GC-MS/MS is meritorious. Particular emphasis will also be placed on personal qualities. You need to be service minded and skilled in organizing the work, working both independently and as a team member as well as able to prioritize among many tasks. You will have ongoing contact with researchers, doctoral and master students and thus need to have good cooperation and communication skills. Good knowledge in Swedish and English is a requirement.
