At Heart Aerospace we develop the ES-30, a regional electric airplane with a capacity of 30 passengers driven by electric motors with battery derived energy. The ES-30 is expected to enter into service in 2028.

Your mission

The Chief Engineer reports to the Head of Design Organization and has technical responsibility for the design and development of the ES-30 aircraft.

You will be responsible for providing technical leadership of the design, analysis, and compliance of the ES-30, working collaboratively with the airworthiness and system monitoring functions within the design organization, and following the approved Design Organization Handbook (DOH) procedures.

You will also represent the engineering department at program/technical reviews as well as customers/supplier meetings, ensuring the engineering definition meets stakeholder all requirements. The Chief Engineer ensures adherence to all engineering processes/standards, drives concurrent engineering, and participates in design reviews to meet certification, cost, schedule, and manufacturability goals.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Technical ownership of ES-30 aircraft product development
- Ensure the aircraft will be technically functional, safe, and certifiable.
- Multi-functional technical leadership of the ES-30 design.
- Alignment of development cost and schedule with program office.
- Ensure that ES-30 development will comply with agreed cost and schedule.
- Ownership of aircraft level development requirements.
- The role requires a high capacity for cooperation and alignment with different stakeholders.
- Drive innovative solutions for the aircraft.
- Handle the challenge of best practice from a startup environment and operating with the regulations for an approved design organization.

You will have the technical product responsibility of the aircraft ES-30. This is not a functional personnel management position, and responsibility for the engineering team will be the responsibility of the Head of Engineering. Your place of work will be at our main office located in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Education/Experience

- Graduate degree in aerospace, aeronautical similar discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 20 years experience in an engineering leadership position within an aerospace OEM company environment.
- Experience with aircraft certification programs through the entire design, development & certification lifecycle (EASA/FAA Part 23 or 25)
- Experience working in an EASA Part 21J Design Organization, or international equivalent.
- Direct experience with the role of the Chief Engineer or Engineering Director within an approved design organization would be beneficial.
- Experience working in an aerospace start-up environment is a bonus.

Specific Skills/Abilities

- Working knowledge of systems engineering principles for safety critical systems (SAE ARP 4754/4761) is a bonus.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English.
- Eagerness to work with others.
- Passion for aircraft and electrification of the aviation industry.
