What we do at Blykalla
Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company at the forefront of the nuclear industry, pioneering the development of small modular reactors that provide clean, safe, and reliable energy. Thanks to lead-cooling, we achieve high safety in a very compact format, allowing for a simple and cost-effective design that can be mass-produced. Our unique reactor design will provide safe and green baseload energy that is a perfect complement to solar and wind power.
What you’ll get to do
As a Chief Engineer, you have one of the key positions of the Engineering team. Within the engineering team, you guide a group of engineers that develops components and systems for the nuclear island, from their conceptual design to industrial manufacturing. Because you are our subject matter expert for all aspects of mechanical design and engineering, you also support other streams of product development with your expertise.
More specifically, your work includes:
Maturing our product. You get your hands dirty with the team and take the product to a high technology readiness level by designing, prototyping, and testing ideas and solutions.
Solving technical issues. You identify and analyze potential issues with our products and apply corrective actions to such issues.
Meeting requirements. You ensure that components and systems meet all criteria for e.g. usability, cost, reliability, manufacturability, maintenance, and safety.
Communicating with conviction. You document and communicate the work and results of the team in technical reports and communicate these to stakeholders with and without a technical background.
Providing expertise and support. You apply your experience and skill sets to other engineering teams needing them for their product development processes.
Growing team competence. You train and mentor junior engineers and designers in your own team and outside the team.
Who you are
For some years now, you have worked with developing industrial machines or components of larger machines, operating in complex environments and having low error tolerance and high requirements regarding reliability. Your technical judgment on the operability and reliability of machinery is based on practical experience in addition to a sound academic education on the matter. You are sufficiently skilled in all matters of mechanical engineering to define and delegate work, and to guide those junior to you to conduct such work efficiently. We think you have experience from the process industry (i.e. energy, oil, pulp & paper, nuclear, etc.) where you have dealt with e.g. piping & vessel design, Heath Exchanger design, other component design.
As a person, you are result-oriented and treat obstacles as temporary set-back on your way to finding solutions. You are a good communicator and thrive when explaining and sharing knowledge of the design with others – both in terms of products, systems, and people.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Proven experience within an engineering team, preferably in a product development environment.
In-depth knowledge and expertise in mechanical design and engineering.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience in designing, prototyping, and testing mechanical and structural components and systems.
Familiarity with nuclear industry regulations and standards is a plus.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others to achieve project goals.
Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Continuous learning mindset and a passion for staying updated with emerging technologies and trends in mechanical engineering.
Fluent in English, spoken and written
Fluency in Swedish is a plus
The role includes interactions with many internal and external stakeholders.

So, what do you think?
We are proud to foster an inclusive workplace free from discrimination. We strongly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and background will lead to a better environment for our employees and a better product. We value this deeply and encourage everyone to be a part of changing how the world thinks about power supply!
