Child Protection Consultant (Sweden)
Background
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. UNHCR is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect and assist refugees and other persons of concern.
The UNHCR Representation for the Nordic and Baltic Countries (RNB) is based in Stockholm, Sweden and is responsible for eight countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment
RNB advocates for fully functioning child-friendly asylum and migration procedures, which ensures the best interests of and access to durable solutions for each child. The assignment thus aims at further promoting child-friendly reception and asylum systems in Sweden by building on the experience and lessons learned in recent years and engaging in partnerships with relevant child protection stakeholders.
The Consultant will:
Consolidate and update findings and recommendations of relevant child protection actors in Sweden since 2015.
Form a national coalition of child protection actors and develop a joint plan of action, including by organizing stakeholder consultations.
Skills and Qualifications:
Corporate:
Adherence to UN's values and ethical standards
Promote the vision, mission, and strategic goals of UNHCR
Display cultural, gender, religion, race, national and age sensitivity and adaptability
Treat all people fairly without favoritism.
Technical/Functional:
Good organizational and coordination skills, with ability to understand and assess asylum and child protection systems
Excellent drafting and communications skills in Swedish and English
Minimum Requirements, Qualifications and Experience:
Law Degree (equivalent of a Masters degree)
Good familiarity with UNHCR and Swedish asylum system
Fluency in Swedish is essential
Desired competencies:
Familiarity with UNHCR standards and tools pertaining to the protection of asylum-seeking and refugee children.
The consultancy is full-time and is from 1 November 2020 until 31 December. The consultancy is desk-based.
