The world has made a huge effort in improving resource efficiency through technology. There is no doubt that this traditional consumption pattern, the “linear” economy is pressuring the planetary limits and threatening business at the same time. In 2015, the European Commission adopted its first circular economy action plan, and in 2019, a comprehensive report on the implementation of the action plan was adopted. Circular Economy aims at optimizing resource efficiency, ensuring waste is recovered for new users or production cycle. In 2021, the Indian Government published three white papers on Circular Economy: Electronic and Electrical sector, Toxic and Hazardous Industrial Waste, and Medical Devices. These actions show that the government is actively taking steps to change from a linear to a circular economy, taking a path towards resource efficiency, reduction of operating cost, and building competitiveness and self-reliance.
