When joining our team at Ericsson you are empowered to learn, lead and perform at your best, shaping the future of technology. This is a place where you're welcomed as your own perfectly unique self, and celebrated for the skills, talent, and perspective you bring to the team. Are you in?
Come, and be where it begins.
Our Exciting Opportunity
Shaping the future is fun. Inventing it is powerful. Creativity is a necessity.
The fifth-generation (5G) of Radio Access Networks (RAN) is happening now and Ericsson is the recognized technology leader in bringing it to the market. We are continuing to develop 5G and are starting to figure out what 6G will be and how to use Cloud Native technology and principles to improve how we develop, implement, deliver and maintain our products.
The Chipset and Software Technology unit is part of the Standards & Technology organization within Business Area Networks. We are responsible for technology leadership and research in digital technology and software with focus on wireless systems. This is achieved through feasibility studies, system design, test beds, technology scouting and driving technical innovation. We are now looking for a Researcher with a SW developer background and a profile towards open source environment and with an interest to build robust and secure systems to join our unit in Lund, Sweden.
You’ll have the possibility to be part of highly proficient teams, focusing on redefining the operating model of Ericsson. Improve your skillset by working side by side with our specialists in meaningful key technologies. We will use your technical degree and competence to develop solutions that solves complex technical problems across all areas of Ericsson together with our highly committed and diverse teams.
We work hands on with cloud technologies and combining them with RAN components developed by Ericsson. Cloud technology is moving at an impressive speed and telecom area is going through a large transition when use cases include more machine to machine type of communication, AI/ML being introduced for automation and including edge computing and more. Technologies to scout, areas to investigate is huge, we need to decide where to put effort and do that efficiently even if there are many unknowns. Making something concrete and presenting it in a crisp way when the input is fuzzy and ever changing is a challenge.
The near-term focus is on cloud infrastructure, acceleration, automation and how to build large distributed radio systems that achieve the needs for telecom infrastructure when it comes to reliability and security. An end to end telecom system is very sophisticated, adding cloud technologies promises automation and simplification of operations but achieves this by adding more moving components. We need to work together to master the complexity. You are invited to bring your knowledge into discussions around application architecture, development environments and strategic decisions.
You will
Drive and implement studies exploring the possibilities of the cloud framework
Identify and tackle real time compute telecommunication functionality in an energy efficient way
Be part of the team that explores the future possibilities with 6G
Report to Manager Chipset & SW Technology
To be successful in the role you must have
M.Sc. degree within computer science or equivalent technical education on university level
Worked at least 5 years’ experience within relevant technical area (or Ph.D)

Position Qualifications
You are confident in solving sophisticated technical questions across organizations as part of a small team. Your contributions span from early feasibility all the way to implementation, trying out new concepts and ideas, spanning from standalone parts up to complete end to end solutions. You are analytical, structural and result oriented. You will find creative solutions and know how to resolve problems when lacking information and act outside your formal area of responsibility when needed. You are able to find the balance between digging deeper into a problem area and when to stop and reflect on the cost and gains of continuing and what lessons can be learnt from not being able to proceed any longer.
Experience of cloud development with containers and container management, hypervisors, virtualization and networks are meritorious. As a person you should be self-motivated, positive, and outgoing, a teammate with analytical skills. You should also have the ability to empower, coordinate and mentor others to success. The cloud area is vast and constantly evolving so it is important that you are comfortable at pursuing and learning new things to a 'good enough' level
