We are building a state-of-the-art Gigafactory that will be one of the largest cell production facilities in Europe. We are now looking for Coating Process/Equipment Engineers to join our Engineering team.

Together, we have formed a joint venture, NOVO Energy, to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo cars.

Our Electrode Engineering team is coalition of specialists, engineers and technical project managers. Together they work toward the shared goal of scaling and industrializing the production of our lithium-ion battery technology that will help Volvo transform into a pure electric car manufacturer.

We are currently seeking more skilled Coating Process/Equipment Engineers to play a pivotal role in the establishment and optimization of our Electrode Coating team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of battery technology, contributing to the development of next-generation energy storage solutions as well allows to lead the process and equipment development of electrode coatings projects for our cell program. This position will directly impact the pursuit of making our manufacturing processes a competitive advantage. The team is currently focused on designing, planning and equipping a world class Gigafactory in time for start of production in 2026.

What you will do
In this role you will be responsible for working with suppliers and a cross functional NOVO team for a specific area of Electrode Coating process and equipment. You will work through adaptation of coating process/equipment design to NOVO requirements, acceptance testing at the supplier site all the way to commissioning and sign off in our NOVO site in Gothenburg before handover a functioning system to production.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Provide process engineering support in slot die Coating of battery electrodes
- Understand the effects of coating process changes upon product quality attributes and performance
- Lead design reviews and FMEAs with Coating equipment suppliers and approve machine design concepts, technical drawings and documentation
- Provide feedback and guidance to coating and mixing equipment suppliers to ensure equipment quality, technical specifications and CE safety standards are met
- Develop and issue DOEs and schedule process and equipment trials at supplier sites as well at NOVO site
- Lead the definition and release of standards for manufacturing Coating Process based on the trials and lessons learned performed on the way
- Provide start up assistance by utilizing cross functional experience to drive process quality improvement and process efficiency improvement
- Own and lead commissioning activities on site and support handover to production
- Actively participating and sharing all relevant information within a cross functional team on a regular basis.

Your background
We see that you are a curious and persistent team player with a track record of leading process improvement projects in a production environment. You approach problem-solving with a “can-do” attitude, discipline and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

- M.Sc. in Engineering or higher degree in mechanical, chemical, industrial or electrical engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in wet coating processes such as slot die, rod, gravure, and multilayer coating technologies
- Experience in the procurement of coating or processing equipment would be an asset
- Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of coating process and its key parameters
- Industrial experience in demanding industrial environments
- Must have worked in multi-cultural environment
- Very good English, additional languages are a plus
