The majority of our powertrain components are combustion engines which we are developing to meet the zero emission targets, after treatment systems, transmissions and axles but also a constantly growing part of e-mobility components.
We stand in front of significant challenges – where reducing transport emitted CO2 emissions is one of the biggest – and here we are focusing on increasing the efficiency of our current products, adapting and developing them to run on non fossil fuels such as HVO, Biofuels and H2 serving a global market and usage.

Responsibilities / Main tasks


The Sweden organization has the full worldwide Product platform responsibility for Heavy Duty Engines and transmission. It is as well responsible for the installation of Heavy duty powertrains in European Volvo Products.
PE Sweden is a large organization consisting of roughly 850 employees in Gothenburg and Malmö.
The Combustion department is in charge of the development of 3 systems of the complete engine and their integration: Fuel Injection Equipment system, Air and Gas system and Combustion system.
Our ambition is to deliver optimized and fully verified complete combustion systems (hardware components, control strategies and calibration) providing best in class solutions to the end customers when integrated in the complete powertrain.
As combustion chief engineer you will be the technical expertise in securing the integration of all combustion systems as well as understanding the balancing to enable us as a section to deliver a complete engine designed and calibrated in the complete powertrain system.
It is also expected that you are one of the once in the section to be seen as a go to person for the complete balancing of the combustion product delivery.
You will be working with prepare the medium / long term evolutions of the combustion system : L1 system roadmaps, competitor and suppliers developments knowledge, translate this in consolidated AE needs and plan together with the complete section.
It is also very important that we secure interaction with the other technologies such as EATS, Base engine and other sites markets to secure their input and needs to our development.
In our daily operations close interaction within powertrain engineering and cross functional with other functions such as purchasing, operations, aftermarket etc will be a necessity to be successful.

You enjoy balancing between strategic plans and short-term activities. You are comfortable in taking on difficult tasks to prepare needed technical decisions and standing up for the values of our company.
You are holding a Master of Science or equal
You have a proven experience within Powertrain development, especially in the combustion area but also in how the complete powertrain system interacts
You are well experienced in operating in a global environment and understanding of our different sites, markets and brands.
Finding solutions and always try to improve both yourself and the product is a part of your DNA.
Genuine interest in understanding how our products are used and how we should develop the systems to meet the legal, customer and society demands
Communication, influencing, lobbying skills.
Ability to make clear synthesis of complex situations
