Master thesis: Concept for busbar cooling of high Voltage Electrical Distribution Products for Commercial vehicles
Electromobility is changing the automotive world, and we are now looking for you who want to be part of this change happening in our industry. The Electromobility Distribution and Charging teams within Power Conversion are dedicated to providing world-class solutions for transferring energy from the grid to the vehicle and distributing energy from the battery to the electric drive system – delivering end customer value for Volvo business units. Not only will you be working with cool technical challenges – but also be part of an optimistic atmosphere where joy, knowledge-sharing, and openness are key characteristics. Join our exciting change journey today and contribute to reducing the CO2 emissions in our society.
About the Master Thesis
In this Master thesis you have the opportunity to develop a product design including CAD (CREO) and thermal simulations for evaluating different cooling concepts of High voltage busbars to be able to use smaller busbars or increase the current capability through our Electrical distribution components.
You’ll be part of an existing team already working to develop next generation of charging and electrical distribution products but have your own scope within the team.
Background
Increased environmental awareness has led to further electrification demands from society on commercial vehicles and offroad applications. Feasible solutions require very large amounts of battery energy storage capacity, while simultaneously requesting ultrahigh charging powers to allow faster charging. Therefore, electrical distribution components for the charging system need to handle even higher continuous charging currents in a smaller packaging form.
Plan
Learn about products being developed and based on future needs create different concept supporting with different cooling concepts to increase performance of our products. Use simulation to continuously improve design and increase quality prior to physical testing.
