Communication Strategist, Sustainability – this is what you'll do.
In this role you will support our ambitious sustainability targets by translating our business strategies into impactful, evidence-based external communication and thought leadership/PR, including through activation in and around high-profile events such as Climate Week NY, United Nations General Assembly, COPs, and the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting etc. You will further drive the development and implementation of powerful, evidence-based narratives, targeted communication strategies and messages across all global channels that create trust and engagement around our sustainability journey & industry leadership - and drive progress. This includes business priorities and planning, as well as proactively identifying newsworthy communication opportunities. You will further connect to external events, societal trends, and topics of relevance to our sustainability strategy and amplify our voice, as well as identify opportunities, or solutions, for lasting change. To deliver, you will work collaboratively both internally and externally, building strong relationships with stakeholders and supporting them with high level communication guidance and actions. You will also play a key role in supporting Volvo Cars’ advocacy efforts, including around climate action.  You will work closely with the wider teams in Communications, Global Sustainability, R&D, Design, Marketing & Brand, People Experience, our markets, and external partners to secure maximum impact and lasting change. If successful, you will have helped to drive impactful and lasting positive change in our business and wider society and build Volvo Cars’ reputation as a recognized leader in sustainability among a range of stakeholders, including media, NGOs, consumers, policymakers, employees, and future talent as well as help contribute to our sustainable growth.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop communications strategies and go-to narratives for key target audiences which effectively and credibly communicate the company’s progress in delivering on our sustainability strategy and establish our thought leadership in selected areas. Develop and deliver 360° communications plans for Volvo Cars’ participation in and around influential and high-profile events such as Climate Week New York, United Nations General Assembly, COPs, and the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. Develop Q&As and crisis communication plans and strategies to effectively manage and mitigate potential reputational risks. Help establish Volvo Cars as a credible and strong advocate for progressive sustainability-related policies, including around climate action, through amplifying our advocacy engagement.Measure and analyze the impact of external communication efforts, using data and metrics to refine strategies and demonstrate the value of communications to key stakeholders. Active involvement in the development of the annual sustainability report, position papers and sustainability strategy announcements. Work with internal communications on strategies to foster employee engagement, alignment with business objectives, and a strong sense of belonging. Ensure consistent and transparent communication across all levels of the organization. 
What you’ll bring
We are looking for a purpose driven and creative communications professional with a proven track record in developing and delivering impactful communication strategies in sustainability. We believe you have a natural passion for news, communication, and engaging sustainability communication. You understand your main target audiences, which include not only relevant media, but also other stakeholders such as NGOs and policy makers. You have extensive experience in PR and/or journalism and a demonstrable ability to utilise different channels and mobilisation to deliver the desired business outcome. Furthermore, you combine your natural interest in creating ground-breaking communication strategies with an ability to always find the right channel for every opportunity.  You have a dedicated interest and knowledge of sustainability, and you acknowledge that it is a business imperative – critical to corporate resilience, responsibility, and success. You are a devoted communications professional with 8-10 years’ experience from a communications function, including experience of sustainability-related communications, possibly with a few years as a Corporate Communications/PR Consultant. 
In addition to this, you have:
A strong understanding of current and emerging global sustainability issues and challenges, ideally within the transport sector, and the ability to relate them to business action. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English), with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging messages for diverse audiences. Demonstrated experience in media relations, crisis management, and proactive media outreach. Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to involve and balance stakeholders, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and data-driven mindset, with the ability to measure and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies.The ability to bring clarity to complex situations
