We are recruiting a Communications Officer to support SEI Headquarters on two projects focusing on translating science to policy and practice in agriculture (AgriFoSe2030 programme) and in the related topic of land-based mitigation (Landmarc project). The position presents an opportunity to join an internationally leading research institute and contribute to impactful communication and stakeholder engagement.

The Communications Officer will support stakeholder engagement, outreach and project coordination, including writing news stories and blogs about research results, tracking and recording contributions to changes in policy and practices, social media posts, videos and podcasts with project stakeholders, coordinating with SEI staff at other centres and external partners and planning and moderating events. External partners and stakeholders include universities and other research institutes, policymakers at the local and national levels, farmer organizations and value chain actors.
In addition to the responsibilities described above, you will work with closely with the AgriFoSe2030 team to support projects within the programme to develop and follow a Theory of Change (ToC) and apply existing monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) tools.
Key duties and responsibilities
Support stakeholder engagement in the Nordic region and globally
Lead, develop and edit publication material, project websites and web content in collaboration with project teams
Support AgriFoSe2030 projects in their ToC and MEL processes and guiding them in planning of their work with regards to ToC
Organize and support the design and implementation of project workshops and other events, both in-person and online
Support media outreach in project target regions
Coordinate with communications and research staff at SEI Africa, SEI Asia and SEI Latin America.
Who you are
We are looking for a person with at least 5 years of work experience in communications and stakeholder engagement, with an equivalent of at least 2 years working on issues related to agriculture, land use and sustainable development.
You are a strong communicator and possess an excellent ability to initiate and drive tasks and ideas forward. You transform scientific information into impactful and simple messages and you enjoy engaging with target stakeholders.
To succeed in this role, you should be driven, motivated, organized and a strong team player.
Formal qualifications and knowledge
Master’s in communications or other relevant field
Interest and/or experience in agriculture, forestry and/or other land use sectors
Experience working in international multidisciplinary project teams
Hands-on experience with communications work such as writing for the web, including social media, text, photo and video editing
Excellent command of English in speaking, writing, reading and comprehension.
Experience with stakeholder engagement and ability to navigate within different policy contexts.
Desirable skills and experience
Good command of Swedish highly desirable
Experience working in low-income regions with sustainable agriculture and land use
Familiarity with climate change mitigation a plus, but not a strict requirement
Experience with moderating different events and workshops.
