Civil Rights Defenders expands its work focusing on the rights of refugees, migrants and asylum seekers in Sweden and along the migration routes to/in the EU. Are you passionate about human rights and want to develop and implement communications efforts to increase engagement for this work? About the role
The Communications Officer will work strategically and operationally with a wide range of communication efforts.
You will plan and implement campaigns, do proactive and reactive media work, organise seminars, edit and launch reports and other public advocacy efforts to maximise awareness of and engagement for the rights of refugees, migrants and asylum seekers. You will be part of an internal project group consisting of legal experts and other colleagues within Civil Rights Defenders, as well as an external group of communication experts from our partner organisations. You will project lead and have responsibility for the coordination of Civil Rights Defenders' communication efforts for the project.
In the organisation, you are part of Civil Rights Defenders' communications department. We work closely together and support each other in all our work. As part of the team, you will also work with other communication efforts related to Civil Rights Defenders' work. You report to the Communications Director.
The role offers great variety, including work tasks such as:
- Develop a communication strategy for the project and coordinate communication efforts in line with the plan.
- Plan, implement and follow up campaigns and events to realise the goals of the project.
- Write news articles and other texts for publication in traditional media and for our website.
- Press and media work, including news monitoring and news evaluation, proactive and reactive media work, preparation of media material, such as press releases, Q&As etc
- Produce digital material for the organisation's various channels, for example, infographics, shorter films and moving images.
- Produce reports, leaflets, invitations and other print material.
- Provide communication support when arranging public seminars.
- Document, analyse and evaluate communications efforts and reports to donors.
- Together with the team, monitor and create engagement in our social media channels and contribute to fulfilling the goals of the communications department.
About you
As a person, you work well with other people and relate to them in a responsive and smooth way to reach common goals. You also set clearly defined objectives for yourself and plan, organise, and prioritise your work in an efficient way to get there.
To be successful in this role you have the ability to look at the long-term significance of things and can remain motivated and effective despite temporary setbacks. If you also are a strong communicator and skilled writer who can explain complex issues in an engaging and expressive manner, we believe that you are the one we are looking for.

To be suitable for this role you have:
- A Bachelor's degree with a focus on communication, political science or international relations.
- Excellent writing and speaking skills in Swedish and English (level C2).
- At least 3 years experience of work with communication, including;
- experience of project leading engaging communication projects;

strategically plan and structure, implement and follow up communications campaigns; press work, news monitoring and news evaluation, proactive and reactive media work;

writing texts and text editing for print and digital channels;

handling social media;
- working with still and moving images;
- producing reports, including editing, proofreading and working with graphic designers;

arranging seminars;

coordinating communications efforts with multiple internal and external actors.
It is a merit if you have a good understanding of Human Rights Law, experience from working with the rights of refugees, migrants and asylum seekers in Sweden and along the migration routes to/in the EU as well as experience from working in the public sector or with political advocacy.

This is a full-time permanent employment (with a 6-month probation period), starting as soon as possible.
