The Administration Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Computer Support Specialist.

Description of directorate/division
The main responsibilities of the Information Technology division is to maintain, improve, advise and lead the ESS platform using Apples/WIN/Linux on clients and on the server side using WIN Servers and VMWare cluster. The responsibility is also to maintain, improve and develop the Project Platform using Primavera and the PLM platform using Enovia, and to maintain and improve the MDM environment. We are today 9 employees and 3 fulltime consultants working in the IT division, within numerous different fields.  

Description of main responsibilities
As a Computer Support Specialist you will provide technical assistance to other employees at ESS. You answer questions or resolve computer problems for users in person, via telephone or from a remote location. Your responsibility is to provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems. As the ESS computing environment is run by operating systems consisting of Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. Most servers are Windows based, and the rest different flavors of NIX. Therefore a thorough understanding of these environments is a necessity as are problem-solving skills. You will also be required to teach people how to use computers/software commonly used here, and to write instruction booklets.



• Oversee the daily performance of client computers.

• Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems.

• Deploy and set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of hardware, operating systems and appropriate software.

• Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.

• Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.

• Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.

• Develop training materials and procedures, or train users in the proper use of hardware or software.

Qualifications


• Solid experience with Windows and OS X as an administrator or power user

• Experience of working in an international environment is essential

• Experience with MS Office is required

• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage

A priority will be given to those with experiences with any of the following:



• Certification as an ACSP, ACTC or MCSA would be a very significant advantage

• Experience as a support technician/help-desk operator

• Degree (bachelor) in Computer Science

• Experience with other UNIX-based environments

• Software development knowledge

• MOUS certified

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
