Arbetsbeskrivning

Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

Who are we?
Our purpose at department Vehicle Energy and Motion Control (VEMC), is to develop and deliver the most energy efficient and situation adopted ride and drive experience. Evaluating driver input, surrounding information (e.g. camera, radar, and route data) and Autonomous Drive request, as well as vehicle state sensor input, our software (mainly inhouse developed) coordinates the different actuators (engine, motors, brakes, steering) to fulfill our purpose and balance vehicle attributes.
We have the responsibility to design, implement and tune the software components needed to fulfil our purpose. Our software components are deployed in various nodes in the vehicle but also in the cloud. We are today about 150 ambitious and experienced engineers doing this together.
What will you do?
Within the group Energy Efficiency, we are looking for one more team member to the newly formed team “Energy Concept and Simulation”. The team will do complete vehicle energy simulations and optimizations, as well as concept investigations. The purpose is to support early phase architectural work to optimize the vehicle energy consumption by component design, and to take part and support in optimal control system design. The energy and power flows can be either kinetic, thermal, chemical, or electrical.
The work will be done in close collaboration with existing CAE teams and competence centra throughout the organization, using existing models as far as possible and do simplifications when needed. Therefore, you must be comfortable using several different simulation platforms, do simple simulations/calculations in early phases and advanced simulations and optimizations when the components are better known.
This is a broad area which gives you a great opportunity to contribute with a holistic vehicle control view and concept development. You will need to collaborate with many different teams and individuals, both internal and external to the department.

Do you fit the profile?
We seek someone who is open minded and curious with a good ability to cooperate and great communication skills. You are a technical-minded team player who appreciate to work with different cultures. Besides being customer focused, you have a strong analytical capability, are structured, and organized in daily work.
You have a good holistic understanding of the physical behaviors of the systems in a car. You have either a background in doing simulations or software development. If you have experience from mathematical optimization or thermal energy management, it is considered an asset.
You have more than 3 years of experience in the relevant field, and at least a master’s degree in engineering.
We assume that you communicate fluently in English (speech and writing) and have a driving license (level B).
