Concept Leader Mechatronics

The department Vehicle Control & Chassis is responsible for the development of Brakes, Wheel suspension, Steering, Wheels and Tyres. The development includes hardware and software, attributes and functions. The department consist of approximately 140 engineers passionate for cars and future development. We have state-of-the art systems that contribute to the successful introduction of recent programs (XC90, S90 and V90). Our vision is to offer systems that make Volvo leading in Driving Dynamics and Driving Experience. The Strategy & Concept section, leads and coordinates departments program concept phase research, advanced engineering, method & process development
As a Concept Leader Mechatronics, you will operate within the Strategy & Concept section and coordinate department program in the concept phase, as a department technical project leader with focus on systems and software development. Your main task is to lead cross-functional development on a conceptual level. Department's delivery is HW and control SW and you need to understand the mechatronic systems. This means you will be in close cooperation and exchange information with department's System Engineers and System Safety Engineers as well as external departments. Your capability to lead, build cross-functional network and understand mechatronic control systems is important personal qualities. Depending on your previous experience, the level of responsibility given to you can be adapted and grow over time.
Main responsibilities
* Manage, plan and lead the department system engineering work as a part of the concept management
* Department representative within the program
* Lead the concept study within the department regarding target setting, function and system design
* Early identification of cross-functional problems and risks by implementing cross-functional design reviews
* Identify and highlight the impact of design changes will have across disciplines
* Implement methods and tools to identify system level problems early in design process
Required qualifications
* Master of Science or PHD (preferred) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical engineering or electronics or equivalent
* Documented experience of system development and system safety engineering
* Fluent in English, written and spoken
* Driver´s license B
* Experience from program management and/or lead experience from other development areas is meritorious
* Experience from requirement specification and product documentation is meritorious
* Knowledge of chassis systems and/or Vehicle Dynamics is meritorious
* Experience from product development assignments is meritorious
