IKEA Museum in Älmhult is a unique place for the many people. IKEA Museum has the task to share the story of IKEA and how we make things better through our unique formula, Democratic Design. We build and strengthen the IKEA brand by offering a high-quality experience, by interacting with people in the context of life at home, home furnishing and design as well as inviting people behind the scenes of IKEA, giving a more intimate experience of the brand.
Besides our public museum we also have a key assignment within our Archive Collection organisation to safeguard, structure and share IKEA heritage and make it accessible for today´s business development needs and for future generations.
We are now looking for a Conservator to join the Archive Collection team at IKEA Museum in Älmhult. We are growing and building an organization to be ready for a new challenging assignment and we need you!
Job Description
As a Conservator you will be the expert and the executer when it comes to physical preservation of our historical artefacts and documents. You will preserve our archive and collection, so it survives for coming generations.
Your main responsibilities will be: Plan and implement active as well as preventive conservation treatments
Perform preventive and active conservation
Secure that conservation requirements are prioritized in projects involving artefacts
Advise on risk assessment regarding our historical artefacts and documents
Register and document artefacts in the museum database.
Lead other resources in different projects within the field of conservation
Contribution in loaning processes and exhibition work
Involvement in accessioning and deaccessioning processes
Keep up to date with the latest techniques and theories within the field of conservation
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are inspired by working in a complex, constantly changing environment with high energy and enjoy working together with others. We expect that you have a degree in the field of conservation and/or practical experience/training in conservation is required. The materials to be worked on range widely, reflecting the IKEA range. You have also worked in museum databases and a good understanding of project based work flows.
Other relevant qualifications: Knowledge of material and how to preserve them
Knowledge about environmental monitoring
Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM)
Ability to communicate confidently and clearly in English and Swedish, both verbally and in writing
Additional Information
This position is full-time assignment (40 hours per week), starting as soon as possible. You will be located in Älmhult, Sweden and report to the Teamleader Archive Collection at IKEA Museum.
