Arbetsbeskrivning
Volvo Construction Equipment (VCE) is one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction equipment. To maintain a leading position, it is essential that Volvo can provide their customers with high operational availability of the construction equipment.
In order to guarantee a high availability of the equipment Volvo requires to identify what are the key contributors for the mean down-time of the machines. Looking at the data that can be obtained from operational machines the contributors to mean down-time can be identified. Included in this work are both corrective as well as preventive maintenance. Impacting factors that will be studied are repair time the on vehicle level and different delay times on such as time for maintenance personnel to become available, time to identify the reason of the failure and the repair time as well delay relating to spare component availability.
Suitable background
System optimization engineering
Description of thesis work
This project aims to run a study on one or several customer use case(s) to identify the factors that impact the down-time of machines in construction environment. The data will be provided from logged data and/or a field case study done by the student. The main activities are:
Review related studies on reliability, availability and maintainability.
Identify relevant standards used, or that be tailored from.
Look into what type of data is required for this study.
Look into what data sources are available from use case and log data.
Identify the main contributors to down-time.
Propose potential solution to decrtease down-time based on findings.
A full report of the work carried out will be prepared and presented to staff at Volvo CE. It is desirable for the student to perform the thesis at Volvo CE facilities in Eskilstuna.
