Control Room Shift Leader

The Technical Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Control Room Shift Leader in the Operations Section within the Accelerator Division.

Description of the Operations Section
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of the ESS accelerator. The Operations section will ensure a well organised and safe operation of the ESS neutron source and relevant technical infrastructure by controlling and monitoring the facility from the main control room.

Description of main responsibilities


• Perform scheduled shift work in ESS main control room.
• Ensure a safe operation of the ESS neutron source and technical infrastructure.
• Ensure that the logbook for the shift is kept.
• Ensure that the neutron source runs inside the operations envelope kept according to the log-book keeping practices.
• Authorise changes in the beam mode and destination inside the current operations envelope.
• Be the point of contact for questions concerning safety (radiological or conventional) when on shift.
• Supervise and guide the work of the operators.
• During Machine Development and Commissioning shifts, work together with the study leader or systems testing leader, to ensure that the studies/tests can take place while ensuring the safety of the operation.
• Issue keys to the PSS controlled areas and monitor the placement of the keys.
• Work with technical systems groups and contribute to the development of the operations instructions, procedures and training.
• Ensure updating RAMI databases and preventive maintenance of components of the Accelerator.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role the candidate should have:


• Technical degree (bachelor or higher) in physics, engineering or computer sciences. 
• Basic knowledge of particle accelerator and support infrastructure systems.
• At least few years of experience as shift leader/similar in control room.
• Good written and oral communication skills in English.
• Organised, with high sense of responsibility and good judgement.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
