The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Control System Integrator, Accelerator.
Description of directorate/division
ESS is seeking a Control System Integrator in Accelerator Integration Support for its Integrated Control System (ICS) division. The ESS accelerator, a pulsed superconducting linac, to be built in Lund, will produce a 5MW average power proton beam, driving the world’s brightest neutron source. The ICS will control the ESS accelerator, target, neutron instruments and conventional facilities. The successful applicant will be partly responsible for developing the accelerator control system in conjunction with Accelerator Division and ICS.
Description of main responsibilities
• Define and manage the interfaces between the control system components and accelerator components
• Involvement in the design of the accelerator component controls
• Responsible for the design, implementation and management of accelerator control system components
• Perform verification of requirements, including analysis, inspection, demonstration and testing
• Perform component validation, including commissioning for operations
• Perform EPICS integration of components
Qualifications
• Masters degree in Engineering, Physics or equivalent is required
• Experience with accelerator control systems
• Knowledge of EPICS
• Experience with programming (C/C++, Java) and scripting (e. g. Python) languages
• Hands-on experience with control system harware
• Experience with control system architecture and design
• Experience with device integration, support and maintenance
• Experience with technology evaluation
• Experience with requirements solicitation and verification
• Ability to design, debug, and test control system components thoroughly
• Ability to teach, mentor and communicate technical concepts and solutions
• Experience of working in an international environment is essential
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
