Core Manufacturing Engineer Electrification (production process)

Core Manufacturing Engineering Assembly Shop is one of the departments within Volvo Cars Manufacturing Engineering working towards final assembly plants worldwide. We have global responsibility for strategic work and for early concept phase in the car programs. Our objective is to create prerequisites for quality assured, flexible and lean production systems over time. We are approximately 25 engineers divided into two groups. We are now looking for a Core Manufacturing Engineer responsible for the area of Electrification (production process).
As Core Manufacturing Engineer you will lead and coordinate activities within your area of responsibility towards final assembly shops on three continents. You will work within annual strategy process, but also within early concept phase within car programs. The purpose of the role is to create manufacturing prerequisites, and to lead development of strategies for production of next generation of vehicles within the scope of electrification. The role has a challenging target setting responsibility towards R&D securing manufacturing aspects of platform and architecture development. It is important both to drive efficiency work of today, and to understand implications of future products and processes. You will work independently, as well as cross-functionally with other functions such as R&D, MP&L, Industrial Engineering and other parts of Manufacturing Engineering.
Main responsibilities
* Responsible for development of manufacturing strategies and requirements
* Responsible to secure manufacturing characteristics of platform- and architecture development
* Leading applicable investigations and strategy studies
* Participation in required networks and councils
* Participation in and/or leading advanced engineering projects
* Providing technical specification for lead time demanding equipment
* Planning and leading benchmarking activities
* Establishing layouts ensuring the most economic process utilization
* Securing that lessons learned improvements are implemented into new solutions
* Investigation of consequences in industrial structure changes, future car programs and platform issues
* Defining cost and investment consequences for process and product changes
Required qualifications
* B.Sc. degree in engineering - Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial is preferred - or equivalent
* 5 -7 years' experience as Manufacturing Engineer or Tooling and Equipment Engineer
* Experience from semi-automatic production processes with tooling and equipment involvement
* Knowledge about lean production concept
* Robust Design and Failure Mode Avoidance knowledge
* Good overall computer skills including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Fluent in English, verbal and written
* Experience from virtual work in 3D tools (e.g. Catia, Teamcenter, ProEngineer, Solid Works), or process- or flow simulation is meritorious
