Cost Engineer

Kalmar is looking for an ambitious and talented person to join the Global Sourcing Team as a Cost Engineer. Kalmar’s product costing program utilizes state of the art product costing software with automatic feature recognition. This program and software is deployed globally and will be utilized by both procurement and engineering teams. This role is one of two, and will be responsible to driving the adaptation and utilization of the software in daily work. In addition, this individual will act as a SME and Project Manager in not only identifying opportunities but ensuring they are carried through to completion.

This position will be a member of the central global sourcing team, and will be a shared resource for several product lines and functions.

Key accountabilities:

- Optimize Processes and Identify Cost Opportunities
- Identify and Manage Costing Projects, ensuring target attainment.
- Consult with and advise product development engineers on economic alternatives for their design and suggest trade-offs.
- Achieve cost reduction targets established by product line and sourcing management.
- Prepare input for product cost projections.
- Recommend improvements to cost competitiveness to engineering and sourcing team members
- Negotiate technical cost driver improvements across functions.






Expectations:


- BSc, MSc or other degree in engineering, economics, business administration, international business, engineering or equivalent or several years relevant work experience of i.e. purchasing, finance, sales, sourcing etc
- Technical background and 3D modeling experience is preferred.
- Procurement and/or Engineering experience in one or more metal fabrication categories is an asset.
- Continuous improvement and benefit realization experience.
- Several years of relevant business / product / project experience.
- Negotiation skills and sufficient position of authority and influence.
- Analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems.
- Financial understanding/competence.
- Disciplined, goal-oriented and able to work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent change management capabilities and ability to work effectively with people in a cross-functional and multicultural environment.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities.
- Ability to work independently and also in a team environment. Be a self-starter.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent command of both written and spoken English.
