Cultural Specialist

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

Incumbent has lead responsibility for managing Mission cultural affairs programming, including independently planning and implementing programs for expert speakers to inform Swedish target audiences on Mission Strategic Plan (MSP) priority topics.Manages the PAS speaker program budget.Organizes public speaking and other non-media public affairs aspects of visits by the Ambassador and other senior Mission and USG officials to Swedish cities.Travels within Sweden escorting speakers and administering their programs.Acts as the Mission's primary liaison with Swedish academia, think-tanks and Fulbright Commission staff.Develops and implements cultural programs to increase understanding of American society and values in support of MSP goals.Prepares and acts as Grant Officer Representative for grants in area of responsibility.

Translates documents and articles from Swedish to English, or English to Swedish, as needed.Works closely with the Press Specialist to maximize press coverage of activities in area of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

a. Education: B.A.or M.A.in Political Science, Economy, History, Journalism, or related fields.

b. Prior Work Experience: A minimum of two years.

c. Language Proficiency: Level 4 (fluent) in Swedish and English.

d. Knowledge: Familiarity with politics, educational and cultural institutions, think-tanks and cultural life in Sweden.

e. Skills and Abilities: An ability to quickly translate from Swedish to English, and vice versa.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

This position is available to Swedish nationals or permanent legal residents as well as
to American citizens with permanent residence permits in Sweden, under the terms of
the Rockefeller amendment authorizing Embassies to hire Americans abroad for FSN
positions, and Embassy American Family Members.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Applicants are selected for appointment on the basis of education, experience, and suitability for the position to be filled.

The selected applicant is subject to medical clearance and limited security investigation and clearance.
